A GOSSIP EXPOSED
I was walking to my room last night
and I had to eavesdrop on a conversation between two kids. From the looks of
things, they were either 13, 14 or probably 15. One of them was complaining to
his friend about how his friends were laughing at him. I remember he said “My
nude photo had gotten leaked and now, I feel so uncomfortable in school, I don’t
even know if I can go to school tomorrow.” I was so depressed! Why would a nude
photo of a 13 year old boy leak? Well most people are either oblivious or
simply ignore the dangers of having a nude photo of yourself on your phone until
they are hit by the harm it causes. The least of one’s worry should be having
to walk around your neighbor with people pointing and making mockery of you.
Despite people knowing the implications of nude photos when they get leaked,
some people still keep them and send them to their boyfriends, husbands, wives
domestic partners, girlfriends. The question that I keep on asking myself is “Why
do people still keep nude photos”?
“BE DOPE, HAVE A NUDE PHOTO OF YOURSELF ON YOUR PHONE”
In a 2008 survey of 1,280 teenagers
and young adults of both sexes on Cosmogirl.com sponsored by The National
Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, 20% of teens (13-20) and 33%
of young adults (20-26) had sent nude or semi-nude photographs of themselves
electronically. Additionally, 39% of teens and 59% of young adults had sent
sexually explicit text messages.
The numbers are definitely
terrifying but let’s find out why people will like to have a nude photo of
themselves or someone on their phone? First of all, the improvement in
technology comes with its own problems. The development in technology brings
about improvement in technology, quick information sharing system etc. Many
people are able to have relationship online and communicate with them without
ever meeting them in physical terms. The need to get intimidate with one’s
partner forces some people to take and send nude photos. More often than not,
when people are sending the photos to their partner, they expect them to be
discreet, they expect them to keep it to themselves and not send it to anyone.
Some people especially the youth
see having a nude photo of yourself or your girlfriend as a social currency. The
obsession the youth have about sex is crazy! Having a strong and huge manhood
is the big deal to most males nowadays. At times, they simply have a nude photo
of themselves on their phones just to show to their friends that they are well “endowed”.
On the part of their people in a relationship, they have this belief that
having a nude photo of your partner is a sign that your relationship is strong
or the other partner will not cheat for the fear that the other partner leaking
the photo sent in secrecy. So these nude photos are seen as a source of
security to most relationships. But are these nude photos worth it?
WHEN THEY COME KNOCKING LIKE TOOTH ACHE
Before you take a nude photo and
send it to someone, ask yourself “If it goes viral, what will I do?” Most
people do not ask themselves this question when taking nude photos. Possibilities
of it going viral seems so distant, improbable and utopian. However, no matter
how distant this looks, you are not going to look good, if your nude photos goes
viral. Nude photos going viral is the easiest thing on Earth, the photos are
going to sell by themselves; remember that sex sells and with just a click of a
button, your nude photos can be accessible to over a billion people on Earth.
Please note that when your nude
photos goes viral, your life is definitely not going to be the same again. Just
imagine the disgrace and disappointment you will have brought to yourself! Just
imagine the loss of dignity and respect! It’s so sad that some people usually
the female take their own life when their nude photos leak. Quite unfortunate
but think of that worse scenario before you take that nude photo!
THE CHAIN MUST END WITH YOU
There’s this Akan proverb which
goes “In advising the cat, do same for the dried salted fish.” No one desires
for her nude photo to be on the market, when it happens, it will be quiet
unethical to be sending to other people. Before you send it to others, ask
yourself “If it was me, will I feel happy if someone forwards my nude photo or
video to a friend.”
The medium for a nude photo or a
sex tape is go viral is you; let the chain break with you! Sending someone’s
nude photo to someone is not admirable. At times, you feel that sending it to
someone will make you look admirable or generous but it simply makes you look
childish and stupid. Don’t press the send button, respect yourself and cut the
chain.

your phone, I advise you never to snap one but if you have one on your phone,
delete it now!
