Snippet: THE THIEF OF THE NIGHT

THE THIEF OF THE NIGHT written by J.Y. Frimpong, Geoff Teague, Eric Yaw and Kojo Poet

Of all the fears that he could have,
The very worst of dread,
The most heinous of imaginings,
Right there beneath his bed,
Was it only in his mind?
Or was reality what he saw?
The sweat was icy on his brow,
Fear ate at his core,
He knew this Thief of the Night,
Would steal what it was he had,
No earthly goods on his manifest,
It was souls both good and bad,
That the Thief was here to take,
And what had started as a shiver,
Now turned into a quake………..

#Egyptian

Goddess of beauty; that is what you are
You sit on the high stool like Aphrodite
And am being seduced by it
Make me your slave O’ beauty
Such a beauty yet I cannot have you
Not even in my dreams if I wish to.

You Egyptian! True blood of Cleopatra
A beauty that will be forever be preserved in Giza
In one of those chambers
Where you will sleep alone
Till the world is destroyed
And not even death can make your beauty fade

Your hair shines like the sun
It can illuminate the bottomless pit.
And your mien, I wonder how many days
Your creator took before making it
And that feet of yours,
I wonder if it has ever touched by ground

If I was to die and ever come back to life again
I would wish to be an Egyptian
I would wish I would to be a Pharaoh
So that I can make you my favourite queen
But if wishes were horses
You would be with me in Paradise

I DEDICATE THIS POEM TO WHITNEY NARKIE TETTEY <3
Spoken Word version will be available. Just watch out

REVIEW: Electric Castle

INTRODUCTION

ELECTRIC CASTLE is a macabre written by J.Y. Frimpong. It was written on 9th December, 2013 but was released on 31st January, 2014. According to J.Y. Frimpong, the poem was written in the dead of the night; apparently he was suffering from a somewhat of an insomnia.

Post by J.Y. Frimpong.

SYNOPSIS:

Electric Castle is a poem about the loss of a love one on the day of his Holy matrimony. This posit from the opening line of the poem "My bride is in the mortuary".

This bridegroom undergoes series of "unbearable" hallucinations and disturbing tantrums. The bridegroom is as in praying for a kind of salvation from the imaginary "ELECTRIC CASTLE".

In the middle of the poem, we realize that the narrator (the bridegroom)  was once unfaithful and hence might be as a result of him undergoing some kind of punishment from his lover.

The poem also describes the "ELECTRIC CASTLE" as being some kind of chapel or church. This is true because the 7th stanza reads

I see an alter on that platform
Can I go and pray for my friends and sins there?
Lo, but I hear that the Priest in there
Is one of your kind
Can’t I even ask for forgiveness
When I am about to die?
The poem ends suddenly and we are not able to verify if the bridegroom was able to escape from the "ELECTRIC CASTLE" or not.

GENERAL REMARKS:

In all, "ELECTRIC CASTLE" is a very very good poem. But however, it is becoming more and more clearly that J.Y. Frimpong is in bed with Edgar Allan Poe.

He must focus on developing his own concept like as he did with "A BOOK THAT NEVER DIES I, II." Electric Castle looks so much like "The Raven", "The Haunted Palace" and "The fall of the house of Usher" in many ways.

Regardless, "ELECTRIC CASTLE" is a very very good poem.

My Electric Castle!

Releasing "ELECTRIC CASTLE" was a challenge for me. The fact was that, I had written loads of poems and I didn't know which of them to release. I was in a dilemma between releasing "Men of the moment" which I had worshiped for so long (I actually wrote men of the moment on 27th January, 2013!)

I wrote "ELECTRIC CASTLE" deep in the night. I couldn't sleep so I grabbed a pen and paper and the first line that I wrote was "Please don't leave me in this electric castle". Before I knew it, I had written this weird poem. Immediately after writing it, I slept. I woke up the next morning, read it and re-arrange it.

I was speaking to Emmanuella (a friend on whatsapp) and I consulted her about which poem to release for January, 2014. After giving her all the titles, she told me to release "ELECTRIC CASTLE". She had not read the poem but suggested that I release that one since the title sounded "cool". Secondly she told me that she didn't have to read it because she knew it would be good.

So on January, 20th January, 2014, someone sent me this nice cover art concept and I was like "WOW! This is the cover I need for my castle. So we took for the cover art, I signed on it and then paw! the cover art was released immediately I signed on it.

Still I was doubtful of it's impact because I had poems like '"A BOOK THAT NEVER DIES III: Bonsam", "A BOOK THAT NEVER DIES IV: The Fall of man", "A BOOK THAT NEVER DIES V: The Serpent's wife", "EGYPTIAN", "MEN OF THE MOMENT", "I AM A SOLDIER TO MY EMPTINESS" and all these poems were like OMG.

I told myself that no matter people's response to this poem, I will still love and cherish it as I did when I first wrote it. So on 31st January, 2014. It was released. Immediately after releasing it, I got calls from my friends and my readers telling me how much they loved it. A friend of mine took this snapshot and tagged me on instagram. The caption was "my fav part.......#ElectricCastle #JYF #Poem

Also I have fallen in love with the following tweets :)

And also to all the journalists who published it on their site, I want to say a big thank you for all what you have done for me. Thank you very much Ameyaw Debrah , Zionfelix, Gameli, ThePrinceGhana, 233NewsLive, SpyGhana, ModernGhana among others. Thank you so so much

Well, to tell you the truth, am happy for choosing to release "ELECTRIC CASTLE" over all the poems that I wrote in 2013. And I am also disappointed in +Henry Deey who has promised not to read any poem of mine that is more than 5 lines. Shame on you :P.

However, a lady has saved me from the electric castle so if you are looking for me please don't come there because you won't find me there!
