REVIEW: Electric Castle

INTRODUCTION

ELECTRIC CASTLE is a macabre written by J.Y. Frimpong. It was written on 9th December, 2013 but was released on 31st January, 2014. According to J.Y. Frimpong, the poem was written in the dead of the night; apparently he was suffering from a somewhat of an insomnia.

SYNOPSIS:

Electric Castle is a poem about the loss of a love one on the day of his Holy matrimony. This posit from the opening line of the poem "My bride is in the mortuary".

This bridegroom undergoes series of "unbearable" hallucinations and disturbing tantrums. The bridegroom is as in praying for a kind of salvation from the imaginary "ELECTRIC CASTLE".

In the middle of the poem, we realize that the narrator (the bridegroom)  was once unfaithful and hence might be as a result of him undergoing some kind of punishment from his lover.

The poem also describes the "ELECTRIC CASTLE" as being some kind of chapel or church. This is true because the 7th stanza reads

I see an alter on that platform
Can I go and pray for my friends and sins there?
Lo, but I hear that the Priest in there
Is one of your kind
Can’t I even ask for forgiveness
When I am about to die?
The poem ends suddenly and we are not able to verify if the bridegroom was able to escape from the "ELECTRIC CASTLE" or not.

GENERAL REMARKS:

In all, "ELECTRIC CASTLE" is a very very good poem. But however, it is becoming more and more clearly that J.Y. Frimpong is in bed with Edgar Allan Poe.

He must focus on developing his own concept like as he did with "A BOOK THAT NEVER DIES I, II." Electric Castle looks so much like "The Raven", "The Haunted Palace" and "The fall of the house of Usher" in many ways.

Regardless, "ELECTRIC CASTLE" is a very very good poem.
